SCN Alert: (KANSAS) Fatal Shooting Attacks at Overland Park Jewish Community Center (JCC)/Village Shalom Assisted Living Center

Incident Overview

According to multiple law enforcement and media reports, earlier this afternoon, a series of fatal shooting attacks occurred at the Overland Park Jewish Community Center and nearby Village Shalom assisted living center. Early reports indicate at least one person was killed at the JCC and a second person was shot and killed at Village Shalom. Reports indicate a third person was shot and critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital.  The final number of  victims remains unconfirmed at this time.

Both facilities remained on lockdown following the shootings. Early reports indicate police have taken a suspect into custody. The identity of the shooter and motive are unknown at this juncture.

Until we have additional details about the nature of the situation, SCN advises all Jewish institutions to remain extra vigilant for the time being and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
